President Donald Trump said teams are “getting a lot closer, possibly very close,” to securing a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida on Sunday.

“We had a terrific meeting. We discussed many issues. As you know, I also had an excellent phone call with President Putin that lasted more than two hours. We covered a lot of ground, and I really believe we’re getting much closer,” Trump said.

He added that about “95 percent” of the issues needed to end the war had been addressed. Trump also spoke about a follow-up call with European leaders after his meeting with Zelenskyy, saying the discussion was positive.

Zelenskyy thanked Trump for hosting the meeting and said the teams were close to reaching a peace agreement.

“We have achieved significant progress. There is a 20-point peace plan, with 90 percent agreed. U.S.-Ukraine security guarantees are 100 percent agreed, and U.S.-Europe-Ukraine security guarantees are almost finalized. On the military aspect, we are fully aligned.

A prosperity plan is being finalized, and we also discussed the sequence of next steps. We agree that security guarantees are the key milestone for achieving lasting peace, and our teams will continue working on all aspects,” Zelenskyy said.
