Trump Renames Artificial Intelligence As ‘Super Intelligence’

US President Donald Trump has announced that artificial intelligence will henceforth be referred to as “Super Intelligence”, arguing that the new name better reflects the capabilities of the technology.

Trump made the declaration on Tuesday during his opening remarks at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He also rejected calls for the establishment of a global framework to regulate artificial intelligence, saying the United States would not support attempts to create an international system for controlling the technology.

“The United States also totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control for the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much now, hereinafter officially called Super Intelligence, changing the name,” Trump said.

Explaining his decision to change the terminology, the US President said the word “artificial” suggested that the intelligence produced by the technology was not genuine.

“In that the use of the word artificial makes intelligence fake. It makes it sound fake, and it is not fake. It’s actually amazing, but we have to be careful,” he said.

Trump said US government documents would be updated to reflect the new terminology and expressed hope that other countries would adopt it.

“In fact, it is exactly the opposite of what it purports. From this point forward, all of United States documents, and hopefully the world’s, will be changed to use the much more accurate term: Super, as opposed to artificial. So, it’s Super Intelligence,” he said.

He added, “In other words, welcome to the new world of Super Intelligence, SI. SI. Let’s see if that goes. It sounds much better, it is much better, and it’s much more accurate. Let’s see if I have any power. Maybe I do, and maybe I don’t. We’re going to find out pretty soon.”

Trump’s announcement followed a social media poll he conducted days earlier, asking followers to choose a new name for artificial intelligence.

He had suggested “Superior Intelligence”, “Extreme Intelligence” and “Supreme Intelligence” as possible alternatives, describing the term “Artificial Intelligence” as inaccurate and “very ineloquent”.

The president had asked his followers to select what he considered a more elegant and accurate description of the technology.
