Nigerian troops have rescued a kidnapped woman and disrupted a planned ransom exchange involving terrorists in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following credible intelligence about an attempt to collect ransom for the woman, who was reportedly abducted from her farm last month.

The acting spokesperson for the troops, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

According to Osoba, the troops quickly mobilised after receiving information about the planned ransom transaction and moved to intercept the criminals.

He said the terrorists sighted the advancing troops and attempted to engage them in a gun battle. However, the troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to retreat from the area, abandoning the kidnapped woman in the process.

Osoba said the victim was subsequently secured by the troops and found to be unharmed.

“Following the rescue, troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the terrorists’ withdrawal route to ensure that the area was fully secured before returning safely to base,” he stated.

The rescued woman was later transported safely and reunited with her family in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.

The military spokesman said the successful operation demonstrated the troops’ continued efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent criminal groups from carrying out ransom transactions in the state.

Troops Intensify Security Patrols
In a separate but related operation, troops also conducted routine clearance operations and dominance patrols across parts of Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Osoba said the patrols were completed without incident, adding that the operations were designed to deny terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements the freedom to operate or move freely within the affected communities.

He assured residents that troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue to sustain pressure on terrorists and bandits operating in Kebbi and other parts of the country.

“We will keep the fire on everywhere the terrorists are. We will dismantle them to secure Kebbi State and Nigeria,” he said.

The military urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and reliable information about suspicious activities and the movements of criminal groups.

Osoba stressed that credible intelligence from members of the public remains essential to preventing attacks, rescuing abducted persons and disrupting criminal operations before they are carried out.

He encouraged communities to remain vigilant and promptly report information that could assist security personnel in protecting lives and property.

The latest rescue adds to ongoing military efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry and kidnapping in parts of north-western Nigeria, where criminal groups have continued to pose security challenges to rural communities and farming settlements.
