Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have intercepted three disassembled canoes allegedly procured by a suspected terrorist kingpin, Shehu Bagewaye, to facilitate the movement of his fighters through riverine areas of Zamfara State.

The operation was carried out on August 23, 2026, following credible intelligence that the canoes had been purchased from Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State and were being transported to Zamfara.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, intelligence gathered by security forces indicated that the canoes were intended to help the terrorists overcome river barriers that had restricted their movement.

The suspected group reportedly planned to use the canoes to improve the mobility of its fighters and logistics while carrying out criminal activities against vulnerable communities in the area.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops of Sector 2 conducted a covert operation along identified areas of interest and intercepted the three disassembled canoes while they were being transported to their intended destination.

Danja said the individuals transporting the canoes abandoned the items and fled after sighting the troops.

The canoes were subsequently recovered and taken into military custody.
Security forces have since launched efforts to track down and apprehend the individuals involved in the attempted movement, as investigations continue into the intended recipients and the broader logistics network behind the operation.

The military said the interception was another indication of the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led operations by Operation Fansan Yamma in disrupting terrorist supply chains and denying criminal groups access to resources that could strengthen their mobility and operational reach.

Danja stressed that the Joint Task Force remained committed to identifying and dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting their logistics and restricting their freedom of movement before they could launch attacks or threaten vulnerable communities.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that cooperation between residents and security forces remains crucial to preventing terrorist activities, protecting communities and safeguarding lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
