A tragic incident occurred during the distribution of palliatives by the Dangote Group Foundation in the Idotun community of Lekki-Ajah Local Council Development Area, Lagos, leading to the untimely death of a young man, Lamidi Nurudeen Alowonle.
According to Mr. Lekan, the elder brother of the deceased who spoke exclusively with KoikiMedia, the event was organized at the Idotun Town Hall, where bags of rice were being distributed to community members. Entrance into the venue was regulated using a ticketing system.

However, chaos erupted when a group of unruly young men, identified as Osunuga Iliasu and Ashafa Timileyin, began harassing attendees in an attempt to force their way into the hall through the windows. The community secretary, observing the disturbance, called on Mr. Lekan to help secure the windows and prevent further intrusion.
In the process of attempting to close the window, Mr. Lekan was injured by shattered glass allegedly broken by the intruders. He sustained multiple cuts and was rushed to a nearby clinic for emergency treatment.

While Mr. Lekan was receiving medical attention, his younger brother, Lamidi Nurudeen, reportedly rushed to the scene to inquire about his elder brother’s condition. Sadly, it was during this moment of concern that the thugs allegedly turned on Lamidi and fatally stabbed him. Despite being quickly taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Baale (community leader) of Idotun, Mr. Waheed Okanlawon, was present during the altercation but showed no visible concern or effort to intervene. It was the community chairman who instructed Mr. Lekan to seek medical help, assuring him that the matter with the hoodlums would be handled.
The incident has left the community in mourning and raised serious questions about the safety and organization of public aid distribution programs.
The family of the deceased is calling for justice and the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. KoikiMedia will continue to follow the story as it develops and provide updates on any official responses from law enforcement or the Dangote Foundation.
