Tinubu, Shettima’s Credentials Displayed as INEC Opens Candidate Records to Public

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun displaying the credentials and personal records of presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections, including those of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The documents, submitted as part of the nomination process, contain details of the candidates’ educational qualifications, work experience, personal information, and statutory declarations.
Tinubu’s records show that he earned a degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University in the United States in 1979.

The documents also include his National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate and employment history, covering his time in the private sector, Lagos State Government, and the Federal Government.

Shettima’s submission outlines his academic journey from primary school to postgraduate studies. According to the records, he graduated from the University of Maiduguri with a degree in Agriculture before obtaining a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.

His NYSC certificate is also among the documents made public.

INEC said the publication of Form EC9 and supporting documents is required by law and is intended to ensure transparency in the electoral process.

The records are available for inspection at the commission’s offices across the country.

The electoral body noted that citizens have the right to obtain certified copies of nomination documents and can seek legal action if they believe any information submitted by a candidate is false.

Campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to commence later this month in line with INEC’s electoral timetable.
