Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Adebayo described the president as “a clever tax collector,” accusing him of burdening Nigerians with excessive taxation

Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu, saying he intends to impose taxes on virtually everything in Nigeria, including the air citizens breathe.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Adebayo described the president as “a clever tax collector,” accusing him of burdening Nigerians with excessive taxation.

He said, “President Tinubu is a clever tax collector. He wants to collect tax for everything, including oxygen. Very soon, if you’re not careful, just give him time; he is going to get there.”

Adebayo faulted Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s oil sector, questioning his dual role as president and Minister of Petroleum.

“For example, we gave you refineries to manage, and you appointed yourself Minister of Petroleum. We spent billions on turnaround maintenance, yet you are not allowing the refineries to work. You are the reason we are importing.

“Because we are importing, you went from not paying subsidy to net zero, and now you want to surcharge me when the refineries are not working,” he said.

He further described Tinubu’s policies as anti-people, adding that the president had abandoned the ideals of the Social Democratic Party.

“Tinubu, who was in the SDP and used to follow Abiola everywhere, has now changed to the side of the money people,” Adebayo added.
