BENIN CITY, Nigeria – No fewer than three students of University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria were rescued from a collapsed storey building at Ekosodin neighbouring community, the institution’s management said on Saturday.

The building, housing some students reportedly collapsed on Saturday, following a downpour which began on Friday. A witness account revealed that no life was lost but several students were injured.

However, in a statement by the university’s management, it was gathered that rescue team, comprising staff of the security and fire service departments, the health centre, students as well as the police succeeded in rescuing the students.

It stated that the rescued students were first taken to the institution’s health centre before two of them were later taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

The statement indicated that the management wished the affected students speedy recovery and commended the rescue team for their gallantry.
