The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Joro Jarkata, suspected of supplying ammunition to bandits in Guma Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson DSP Peter Aondona said the suspect was arrested during a stop-and-search operation conducted by officers of the Guma Division on July 28, 2026.

According to him, two men were intercepted on a motorcycle, but one fled into a nearby bush after sighting the police.

A search of Jarkata led to the recovery of 115 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition concealed in his possession.

The suspect, who hails from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, is currently in custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling the illegal movement of firearms and ammunition.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
