Terrorists locally dubbed as bandits in Nigeria have reportedly abducted one Malam Ashiru Sherehu, the village head of Tunburku in Giwa Local Government area of Kaduna State.

Sherehu was said to have been kidnapped while he was returning from his farm on Saturday.

A local source, identified as Ahmadu said farmers are unable to access their farms situated a few kilometers from the town due to fear of being killed or abducted.

Hussaini Umar, a traditional leader in the community and Sarkin Fadan Galadimawa, confirmed the incident to local newspaper, Daily Trust.

Umar said that the village head was abducted around 5:00 pm on Saturday.
“He was returning from his farm around Tunburku area when he was stopped by the bandits and they took him away. We are yet to hear from his abductors; they have not contacted us,” the traditional ruler said.

He added that two other farmers were abducted in Sabon Layi under Kidandan Ward while working on their farms on Sunday afternoon.

Umar explained that villagers who witnessed the incident were unable to intervene as the bandits were armed.

He lamented that farmers were being hunted by bandits.

The traditional ruler commended the efforts of the soldiers deployed to the area but appealed to the government to send more security personnel as the insecurity situation worsened.

The Kaduna State Police Command could not be reached for comments.
