A tragic and horrifying incident occurred in the quiet community of Oba-Ile, Osun State, on Tuesday evening, when a man identified as Sodiq Eniola allegedly killed three siblings with a machete before being lynched by a furious mob.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, believed to be under the influence of hard drugs, launched an unprovoked attack on the children at their residence in the Ese Ola compound around 8:05 p.m. The children, whose names and ages have not yet been disclosed, were reportedly playing when the man struck.
Disturbing sounds drew the attention of neighbors, who rushed to the scene only to find the three children lifeless in a pool of blood. Eniola, described by locals as mentally unstable and known for substance abuse, attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by an enraged mob.
Despite police intervention, the mob took justice into their own hands, beating the suspect severely before law enforcement could restore order. He was later confirmed dead while being transported to the hospital.
Spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations are ongoing. βThe suspect attacked the children with a machete and killed them. He was lynched before police arrival. We have commenced investigation,β she said.
The community of Oba-Ile remains in deep mourning, struggling to come to terms with the loss of three young lives and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
