Super Falcons Begin Preparations in Casablanca for WAFCON Title Defence

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have started arriving at their training camp in Casablanca, Morocco, as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Among the first players to report were captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala, defenders Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Rofiat Imuran and Shukurat Oladipo, midfielder Christy Ucheibe, and goalkeeper Fatima Oloko of Abia Angels.

The training camp will give head coach Justine Madugu and his technical team time to refine tactics, strengthen team chemistry, and ensure the players are in top physical condition before the tournament begins.

The 2026 WAFCON will take place in Morocco from July 26 to August 16. Nigeria, the most successful team in the competition’s history with 10 titles, will be aiming to defend their crown and secure a record-extending 11th championship.

More players are expected to join the squad in the coming days, including experienced stars Osinachi Ohale, Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne, Michelle Alozie, Halimatu Ayinde, Deborah Abiodun, Esther Okoronkwo, Francisca Ordega, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Omorinsola Babajide, Gift Monday, and Uchenna Kanu.

Also expected are Portsmouth goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor, defender Sikiratu Isah, forward Joy Omewa, and China-based striker Folashade Ijamilusi.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group C and will begin their title defence against Malawi on July 28.

They will then face Zambia on August 1 before rounding off the group stage against Egypt on August 5.

The Super Falcons won their 10th WAFCON title after defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in last year’s final.

The expanded 16-team tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification spots.

The fifth-placed team will advance to the intercontinental play-offs.
