In a viral video showing a call conversation between Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, and the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in 2021, Igboho delivered a clear and powerful message: the Yoruba people seek peace, not violence. His words, filled with sincerity and determination, resonated deeply with many who had grown weary of the escalating insecurity in the Southwest. However, despite this peaceful stance, the Fulani militia has continued their reign of terror attacking farmers, kidnapping innocent people, and leaving communities in perpetual fear.

Igboho’s message was a plea, not just to Governor Bello, but to all political leaders, security agencies, and the global community to recognize and address the plight of Yoruba farmers and citizens who have been subjected to relentless violence. The ongoing attacks have led to the displacement of many, economic devastation, and a growing sense of helplessness among those who simply wish to live and work in peace on their ancestral land.

Fast forward to today, the situation remains dire. The kidnapping of our people for ransom has become a daily occurrence, farmlands have been overrun, and many have lost their lives to unprovoked attacks. The question remains: how long will this be allowed to continue? If those in power had heeded Igboho’s words in 2021, perhaps the crisis would have been addressed more effectively.

Chief Sunday Igboho’s commitment to protecting his people has never wavered. His advocacy for justice and security is not about personal gain but about ensuring that the Yoruba people can live freely and safely in their own land. The call for self-determination is rooted in the fundamental right to safety and self-preservation a right that no people should be denied.

Now, more than ever, his words from 2021 ring true. The Yoruba people do not seek war; they seek justice. They do not want conflict; they want protection. It is time for the Nigerian government and international bodies to recognize the ongoing crisis and take decisive action to stop the bloodshed.

The world must listen. The suffering must end. Yoruba land must be free from the grip of terror, and its people must be allowed to thrive in peace.
