Ibadan, Nigeria – October 19, 2025 – Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a strong rebuttal against a malicious and fabricated publication circulating on social media, falsely attributed to Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano.

The fake article alleges that Chief Igboho accepted a ₦50 billion bribe to abandon his advocacy for the Yoruba people — a claim he describes as entirely false, unfounded, and designed to tarnish his reputation while sowing division among Nigerians.

In a statement released through his media office, Chief Igboho declared:

“I have never been offered any bribe, nor would I ever compromise my principles for personal gain. This fake news is a deliberate attempt by detractors to discredit my efforts and create confusion. I remain steadfast in my fight for the rights, security, and prosperity of the Yoruba people.”

Investigations reveal that the alleged quotes attributed to the Emir of Kano are nonexistent across all credible media platforms, including print, broadcast, and digital outlets. Furthermore, the story — shared on Facebook by individuals such as Mayor Macanthony Nwanebi and other unverified accounts — lacks any credible evidence or corroboration from reputable journalists or official records.

Since his release from detention in the Benin Republic in October 2023, Chief Igboho has continued his peaceful advocacy for self-determination, community security, and good governance without compromise. His recent public addresses in March and August 2025 further affirm his unwavering commitment to justice and regional harmony.

Chief Igboho also used the opportunity to urge the media and the general public to exercise caution and verify information before dissemination, emphasizing that the reckless spread of misinformation could endanger national unity and peace.

He further called on Nigerian authorities to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the defamatory publication in accordance with Nigeria’s Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, to deter future acts of digital misinformation and slander.
