Yoruba nation agitator and community leader, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has sent warm birthday greetings to renowned scholar and philosopher, Professor Segun Gbadegesin, as he marks his 80th birthday.

In a heartfelt message made available to the media, Sunday Igboho described Professor Gbadegesin as a father figure, a rare intellectual, and a patriotic Yoruba son whose life has been devoted to the progress and dignity of the Yoruba people..

According to Igboho, Professor Gbadegesin’s legacy goes beyond academics, highlighting his principled decision to reject political appointments and national honours offered by successive governments. He noted that rather than accepting positions such as minister, the elder statesman chose a more enduring contribution by advocating for educational development in Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State.

Igboho recalled that Professor Gbadegesin specifically urged the government to establish a university in the region, a request that eventually led to the siting of a university in Okeho, a development he said has continued to benefit not only the people of Okeho but the entire Yoruba nation.

“Professor Segun Gbadegesin is a father who genuinely loves his people. His decision to prioritize education over personal political gain has left a lasting legacy that generations will continue to benefit from,” Igboho said.

The activist offered prayers for the celebrant, wishing him long life, sound health, and continued joy. He added that the people of Okeho and the wider Oke-Ogun community join in celebrating the respected academic, praying that his remaining years will be filled with peace, happiness, and fulfillment, free from sickness and sorrow.
