Stock Market Returns to Growth as Capitalisation Hits N155.85tn

The Nigerian equities market recovered on Tuesday after two consecutive days of losses, with the total market capitalisation increasing by N719 billion.

The All-Share Index gained 1,121.33 points, representing a 0.46 per cent rise, to close at 242,870.44 points, while the market capitalisation climbed to N155.85 trillion.

The positive performance was driven by gains in major stocks, including Transcorp Hotels, MTN Nigeria Communications, First HoldCo, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, and Zenith Bank.

Investor confidence remained strong as 24 companies recorded gains compared to 22 losers. Learn Africa led the gainers’ chart with a 10 per cent increase, closing at N9.90 per share, followed by First HoldCo, which gained 9.98 per cent to close at N72.15.

Other top gainers included Thomas Wyatt Nigeria, R.T. Briscoe, and Transcorp Hotels, while International Energy Insurance, Legend Internet, and Fortis Global Insurance recorded the biggest losses.

Trading activity also improved, with total transactions rising to 634.78 million shares valued at N53.34 billion across 42,494 deals.

First HoldCo dominated trading volume with 326.92 million shares worth N22.33 billion, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding Company and Access Holdings.
