Activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Davido visited Wike at his Abuja residence on Thursday alongside his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, days after the Osun State governorship election.
A video circulating online showed Davido and Wike having a brief conversation about the outcome of the election, which was held on August 15.
Reacting to the footage, Sowore questioned the singer’s interaction with Wike, given the violence and reported deaths associated with the election.
In a post on X, Sowore accused politicians and their allies of concealing their interests behind public disagreements and political rhetoric.
He particularly took issue with Davido’s conduct, accusing the singer of “genuflecting” before Wike despite the bloodshed recorded during the election period.
Sowore wrote:
“Nigerian political hustlers will deceive the public, and the gullible will swallow the deception whole.
“Here is the loud and lousy @davido genuflecting before Nyesom Wike @GovWike, barely a week after their ‘agreement is agreement’ election politics in Osun, a contest marred by deadly violence and the loss of scores of lives.
“Behind all the public grandstanding, insults, and manufactured outrage, these political actors know exactly where their interests converge.
“Dissemblers. Gerrymanderers. Carpetbaggers. Political hustlers. Lying machines. When their interests are at stake, the masks come off.”
The August 15 election was preceded and accompanied by reports of violence, including the deaths of supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Accord Party.
