South Sudan’s President Sacks Central Bank Governor

South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir, has removed Central Bank Governor Johnny Ohisa from office in the latest shake-up within his administration.

The decision was announced in a presidential decree broadcast on state television on Wednesday night.

No reason was provided for Ohisa’s dismissal.
Kiir has appointed Addis Ababa Othow as the new governor of the Bank of South Sudan. Othow previously held the position between June and November 2025.

The change is part of a broader series of government reshuffles carried out by Kiir in recent months.

Analysts believe the moves are aimed at strengthening his political influence amid uncertainty over the country’s future leadership.

Ohisa, a veteran economist, had only recently returned to the role after serving as central bank governor on two previous occasions.

South Sudan’s economy continues to struggle with declining oil revenues, persistent cash shortages, high inflation, and the depreciation of its currency.
