Shettima Bans Birthday Congratulatory Advertisements as He Turns 60

Vice President Kashim Shettima has appealed to his friends, associates, supporters and other well-wishers to refrain from placing congratulatory advertisements in newspapers or broadcasting birthday messages on radio, television and digital platforms as he prepares to mark his 60th birthday.

Shettima, who will clock 60 on September 2, made the appeal on Saturday in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

The Vice President explained that he intends to mark the milestone quietly, saying the attention of Nigerians should remain focused on the country’s development and the important responsibilities facing the government rather than on personal celebrations.

He therefore appealed to individuals and organisations planning to celebrate him to avoid organising public birthday parties, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media.

Shettima said the decision was motivated by his desire to maintain propriety and ensure that his birthday does not become an avenue for unnecessary spending or elaborate public celebrations.

Instead of purchasing newspaper advertisements, organising events or spending money on other forms of celebration, the Vice President urged his well-wishers to use the occasion to pray for Nigeria and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

He specifically called for prayers for the success of the government’s ongoing economic reforms, noting that the measures are aimed at strengthening the nation’s economy and improving the lives of Nigerians.

He also requested prayers for lasting solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges, greater national unity, peace and stability, as well as prosperity for citizens across the country.

According to Shettima, his 60th birthday should be regarded as an opportunity for reflection and gratitude rather than merely a personal celebration.

He said the milestone provides an occasion to reflect on the journey so far and renew his commitment to serving Nigeria.

The Vice President’s position underscores his preference for keeping the birthday celebration modest while directing public attention towards the broader challenges and responsibilities of national development.

He expressed appreciation to Nigerians and others who may wish to celebrate with him, but encouraged them to demonstrate their goodwill by supporting the country through prayers and continued commitment to peace, unity and national progress.
