Suspected herdsmen launched fresh attacks in Agatu and Apa Local Government Areas of Benue State on Monday evening, leaving several people feared dead.

Among the victims was Sunday Dutse, a native of Odejo and younger brother to a former chairman of Agatu LGA.

He was reportedly killed along the Odugbeho-Ogbaulu road.

Dutse had been displaced in an earlier attack and was taking refuge in Ogwule-Kaduna, also in Agatu.

Earlier that day, a separate assault was reported in Edikwu-G’Icho community in Apa LGA, where three youths were ambushed and killed.

Two of the victims were said to be from Edikwu-G’Icho, while the third hailed from Ugbokpo.

The latest attacks occurred despite a recent visit by top military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, who had pledged tighter security in the troubled region.
