Four people have been killed and 21 others injured after Russia launched 170 drones on Ukraine, targeting several regions despite ongoing international peace efforts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, stating, “Throughout last evening and night, Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 170 drones, including over 100 Shaheds.”
The assault struck the Dnipro, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions. “Throughout the night in Dnipro, the aftermath of the attack was being dealt with. As of now, four people are confirmed dead. My condolences to their families and loved ones,” Zelensky said.
“Twenty-one people were injured, including a pregnant woman. Residential buildings, a hotel-restaurant complex, garages, and a car repair shop were destroyed or damaged,” the statement added.
“Unfortunately, there was destruction in every region that was attacked. Our unwavering gratitude goes to everyone helping the people on the ground after these strikes – those rescuing, providing medical aid, and clearing the rubble.”
Zelensky accused Russia of undermining global peace initiatives, saying, “Russia mocks the world’s peace efforts by dragging out the war and committing these acts of terror because it still doesn’t feel real pressure. Diplomacy can work, but only when backed by actions that strengthen our warriors and deprive the occupiers of the resources to wage war.”
“Our partners know what can help, what kind of pressure is needed, and it depends on America, Europe, and everyone in the world who wants effective diplomacy.”
The attack comes amid discussions in Europe about deploying Western peacekeepers to Ukraine, a move Russia has strongly opposed. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned, “Such a move could lead to a direct clash between Russia and NATO.”
She also accused London and Paris of plotting a “military intervention in Ukraine” disguised as a peacekeeping operation.
Meanwhile, leaders from nearly 30 countries, along with NATO and EU officials, met in Paris to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s defences. French President Emmanuel Macron, who hosted the summit, focused on securing long-term peace and military aid for Kyiv.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the European leaders, emphasising, “Europe knows how to defend itself. We must prove it,” as allies deliberated on forming a “Coalition of the Willing” to deter further Russian attacks.
With Russia’s full-scale invasion now in its fourth year, France and the UK are leading efforts to deploy European troops to Ukraine, hoping to secure lasting peace and transform Ukraine’s military into the primary defence against future Russian aggression.
