Abuja – Police on Wednesday, foiled attempt by armed kidnappers to abduct residents in El-Rufai Estate in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The incident happened around 2am, according to investigative news outlet, Sahara Reporters. El-Rufai Estate is located in the Bwari Local Government Area of FCT.
A man simply identified as Nathaniel was reportedly shot by the gunmen after an attempt to kidnap him was foiled by the police operatives.
The kidnappers were said to have attempted to abduct many of the residents before the operatives of the FCT police command foiled their operation, in a fierce gun duel that lasted for about 30 minutes.
“We received a distress call and mobilized operatives, who swiftly repelled the miscreants in a gun duel. Many of them escaped with bullet wounds,” said Josephine Adeh, spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command.
“We are on the trail of the kidnappers, so we urge the general public to report anybody seen with bullet wound to Police,” the police spokeswoman appealed.
Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, born 16 February 1960, is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. He had served as minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007.
