Police Arrest Stepfather Over Alleged Defilement Of Eight-Month-Old Baby In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man, Balarabe Adamu, for allegedly defiling his eight-month-old stepdaughter in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

Habib said the police received a report on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at about 5:34pm, alleging that Adamu, a resident of Lame in Toro LGA, sexually abused the baby after she was brought to his residence by his wife.

The victim was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment following the alleged incident.

According to the police, operatives of the Gumau Division responded to the report and arrested the suspect.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to Gumau Division swiftly responded and arrested the suspect. He is currently in custody and undergoing investigation,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the alleged abuse and assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated.

Aliyu added that the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded, in line with the law.

The command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards sexual violence and child abuse, urging parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.

The police said further updates on the case would be provided as the investigation progresses.
