The Borno State Police Command has arrested 210 suspects and recovered a significant cache of drugs and weapons during a week-long operation carried out between June 11 and 18.

Commissioner of Police, Naziru AbdulMajid, disclosed this on Friday at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri.

He said the operations involved coordinated raids, surveillance, and stop-and-search efforts aimed at curbing handset snatching, youth gangsterism, thuggery, and drug abuse.

According to him, 86 of the suspects have already been convicted, while 124 are still under investigation.

Items recovered include 58 sachets of tramadol, 175 exzol tablets, 130 D5 tablets, and 395 wraps along with one kilogramme of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The police also seized 28 ermo tablets, 10 bottles of drug syrup, 19 shisha pots and pipes, nine knives, and two customised antelope horns.

AbdulMajid credited the operation’s success to the Rapid Response Squad Social Vices Unit, a joint team comprising the police and other security agencies.

He commended the officers’ bravery and commitment, and expressed gratitude to the Borno State Government for revitalising and equipping the unit.

He also thanked the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hauwa Abubakar, for enabling swift prosecution of suspects.

The CP urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and sharing credible information.

“Let me be clear, the Police Command in Borno under my watch will not tolerate criminal elements or their unlawful activities,” AbdulMajid said.

He warned those involved in illegal acts to desist or face the full weight of the law.
