A one-storey building under construction has collapsed at Agarawu Street, near the Central Mosque by Idumota Bus Stop on Lagos Island, triggering a swift response from emergency services.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, arrived at the scene alongside other relevant agencies shortly after the incident was reported.

According to a post on NEMA’s official X handle, operatives from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) have taken over the site to avert further danger.

The statement read, “A one-storey building under construction collapsed at Agarawu Street, off Aroloya, near Central Mosque, Idumota Bus Stop, Lagos State. The incident prompted an immediate response from the NEMA Lagos Operations Office alongside other relevant stakeholders.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the exact cause of the collapse remains unknown at this time. Following the assessment, officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency have taken control of the site and ordered a manual demolition of the remaining structure.”
