Lile, Kwara State — Tragedy struck in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State as unidentified gunmen fatally attacked the home of Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ward Chairman for Lade Ward One, killing both him and his son in a late-night raid on their residence in Lile community.

According to local reports, the assailants stormed the family home under the cover of darkness, executing the brutal attack that has sent shockwaves across the community and beyond.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin, former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, expressed profound grief over the incident and vehemently condemned what he described as a “barbaric and senseless act of violence.”

“This is a heartbreaking loss. I am deeply pained by the news of the gruesome killing of Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun and his son. My heart goes out to their family and the entire Patigi community at this sorrowful time,” Saraki stated.

The former Senate President offered prayers for the repose of the victims’ souls and extended condolences to the bereaved family, calling for strength and healing for those affected.

Saraki further urged the Kwara State Government and security agencies to respond swiftly to the growing threat of insecurity in the region. He emphasized the urgency of restoring public safety and preventing future bloodshed.

“This alarming rise in violent attacks across Kwara State must not be ignored. Authorities must take immediate and decisive steps to ensure the safety of all citizens and protect lives and property at all costs,” he said.

As of the time of this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
