Fear gripped residents of Imobi, a rural community in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Tuesday after a wandering elephant reportedly killed a farmer.

The elephant, believed to have strayed from a government forest reserve, was said to have attacked and trampled the unsuspecting farmer while he was working on his farm.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, said the ministry had been alerted and officials were on their way to the community.

“Yes, we are aware and we are already on our way to the community,” Oludotun stated.

As of the time of filing this report, details of the incident remained sketchy, but residents expressed fear over the growing presence of wild animals near farmlands.
