Osun Election: Deputy Governor Raises Concern Over BVAS Failure at Polling Unit

Osun State Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, has expressed concern over the malfunction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System at his polling unit during Saturday’s governorship election.

Adewusi said the voting process started smoothly but was disrupted when the BVAS machine developed technical problems.

He said the malfunction slowed voter accreditation and left several people unable to cast their ballots.

The deputy governor urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to urgently resolve the problem and restore the accreditation equipment so that eligible voters could participate in the election.

He also expressed frustration over difficulties in reaching INEC officials for assistance after the machine began malfunctioning.

Adewusi warned that prolonged technical problems could disenfranchise a significant number of voters, particularly as many residents had turned out to exercise their right to vote.

Similar complaints were reported at other polling units across Osun State, where voters encountered delays during the accreditation process.

At the polling unit of Governor Ademola Adeleke in Ede, a large crowd was reportedly seen, with some voters expressing frustration over the slow performance of the BVAS machines.

One voter, Alhaji Olaboye Mudashiru, who travelled from Ivory Coast to Ede to participate in the election, said he was disappointed by the accreditation delays.

He questioned the effectiveness of the process, particularly given the large number of voters who had gathered at the polling location.

The reported BVAS problems have raised concerns about the ability of INEC’s accreditation system to cope with the voter turnout and ensure that all eligible citizens are able to participate.

With both political officials and voters calling attention to the technical difficulties, pressure is now on INEC to address the problems promptly and ensure that no voter is prevented from exercising their democratic right because of malfunctioning accreditation equipment.
