One Dies In Osun Cultist Attack

A man identified as Adejuwon Adekunle, popularly known as Asa, has been killed in a suspected cult-related attack in Osogbo, Osun State.

The incident occurred around 2am on Tuesday in the Dele Yes Sir area of the state capital, where armed men reportedly opened fire.

The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, saying Adekunle was shot during the attack and rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“What happened in Dele Yes Sir is suspected to be a cult-related attack. The incident occurred around 2am on Tuesday,” Ojelabi said.

“We got information that some armed men went to the area and started shooting sporadically. One Adejuwon Adekunle, aka Asa, was shot and rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival,” he added.

According to reports, the assailants allegedly traced Adekunle to the area before attacking him between 1:30am and 2am.

His remains have been deposited at a morgue, while the identities and whereabouts of the attackers remain unknown.

Ojelabi said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

He added that no arrest had been made in connection with the killing.

The police said preliminary findings suggested that the attack might be cult-related, adding that investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
