COTONOU, BENIN REPUBLIC – In a solemn visit to Benin Republic, Olayomi Koiki, the spokesman for Dr. Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, extended heartfelt condolences to Professor Adebanji Akintoye, the revered leader of the Yoruba Nation self-determination movement, following the passing of his beloved wife, Mama Julia Olubusola Akintoye.
Mama Julia, aged 88, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, December 25, 2024. Her demise marks the end of a life dedicated to love, service, and unwavering support for the Yoruba cause. As the wife of Professor Akintoye, she stood as a pillar of strength, offering encouragement, wisdom, and prayers in the struggle for the liberation and self-determination of the Yoruba people.
During his visit, Olayomi Koiki conveyed the sympathies of Dr. Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho and the entire Yoruba Nation movement. He described Mama Julia as a mother figure whose sacrifices and steadfast support for the cause will never be forgotten.
“Mama Julia was not just a wife to our leader; she was a mother to all of us in the struggle. Her dedication, resilience, and unwavering belief in the liberation of the Yoruba people were evident in the way she stood by Baba Akintoye through thick and thin. Her passing is a great loss, not just to her family, but to the entire Yoruba Nation,” Koiki remarked”.
Professor Akintoye, while receiving the delegation, expressed his deep appreciation for the visit, acknowledging the outpouring of love and support from Yoruba sons and daughters worldwide. He noted that Mama Julia lived a fulfilled life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and an unshakable belief in justice and self-determination.

Koiki further reiterated that Dr. Sunday Igboho and the entire Yoruba Nation movement remain committed to the vision and ideals that both Professor Akintoye and Mama Julia fought for.
