Dr. Akin Fapohunda, Director of Research at the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, has criticised Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, accusing him of acting on behalf of former governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV on Monday, Fapohunda described Okpebholo as having a “village mentality” and claimed he was installed in office by Oshiomhole.

He likened Okpebholo’s influence to that of the late Ibadan political figure Lamidi Adedibu in Oyo State, saying the Edo governor was carrying out Oshiomhole’s political directives in a similar manner.

Fapohunda warned former presidential candidate Peter Obi to take precautions amid rising political violence, stating, “Peter Obi should protect himself and not just die in vain. If he dies, nothing will happen. There will be little riots here and there, and that will be the end.”

He added, “The reign of whoever it was, the governor of Edo State, I can’t even pronounce his name. The man just has a village mentality. He’s sincere in what he’s doing, I can’t fault him. He was put there by and catapulted by Adams Oshiomhole, and he’s doing his bidding just like Adedibu in those days in Oyo.”
