Abuja, Nigeria – October 1, 2025 — As Nigeria marked its 65th Independence Day anniversary, the Oduduwa Nation Youths, both home-based and in the diaspora, issued a strong joint statement calling for the total disintegration of Nigeria.

The declaration came from Prophet Ayodele Ologunloluwa (Diaspora Youth Leader) and Comrade Oyegunle Oluwamayowa Omotoyole, popularly known as Omayor (Home-based Youth Leader).

Independence Day Marked by Criticism

While the rest of the nation observed the October 1 celebrations, the Oduduwa Nation Youths used the occasion to highlight the failures of governance, rising insecurity, and worsening poverty. According to the statement, Nigeria’s independence remains incomplete, as citizens continue to suffer under “bad leadership, systemic corruption, and a failed system.”

The youths emphasized that despite Nigeria’s vast natural resources, millions of people live in dire poverty. They accused the federal government of neglecting the masses while enriching a few elites.

Major Concerns Raised

The joint press release outlined key grievances:

  • Bad Governance: President Bola Tinubu’s administration was criticized for economic policies that have led to food insecurity, unemployment, and a rising cost of living.
  • Marginalization: Communities, especially farmers in rural areas, feel neglected and abandoned, intensifying conflicts such as the farmer–herdsmen crisis.
  • Killings and Kidnappings: Fulani herdsmen and bandits continue to launch violent attacks, particularly in southern and central regions. Between June and September 2025, over 1,000 lives were lost in Benue and Kwara States, while more than 60 Christians were killed in Plateau State earlier in the year. In March 2025, nearly 400 people were kidnapped in Kaduna State alone.
  • Extreme Poverty: Over 129 million Nigerians are living below the poverty line, despite government promises of economic reforms.

Voices of the Youths

The Oduduwa Youth leaders questioned whether Nigerians truly enjoy independence:

“We celebrate Independence today, but can we truly say we are independent? Nigeria has failed its citizens. We demand total disintegration before it is too late.”

The leaders further warned that the continued spread of terrorists and bandit groups posed existential threats to communities, families, and future generations. They stressed that the amalgamation agreement of 1914 was not meant to be permanent and, after over a century, regions should have the right to self-determination.

“Oduduwa Nation is all we want. Nothing good will come from Nigeria’s bad government other than corruption, looting of public funds, and the enslavement of citizens.”

Call for Urgency

In their closing remarks, the Oduduwa Youths urged Yoruba sons and daughters, both at home and abroad, to unite in their demand for freedom. They insisted that the time had come for self-determination, declaring:

“Oduduwa á gbé wá, kò ní gbé òdàlè (Oduduwa will uplift us and never support traitors).”
