The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has ordered all large taxpayers to fully adopt the national e-invoicing and Electronic Fiscal System by July 31, 2026, warning that failure to comply could result in sanctions under existing tax laws.
The directive was announced in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media to the NRS Chairman, Dare Adekanmbi, following a public notice signed by NRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji.
The agency said the deadline follows an earlier notice released in February 2026, which made the adoption of the national e-invoicing system, known as the Merchant Buyer Solution, mandatory for large taxpayers.
According to the NRS, affected companies must complete onboarding, system integration, testing, and begin transmitting invoices through the platform before the deadline.
The agency added that it has already started monitoring compliance and warned that defaulting companies could face regulatory and enforcement actions.
The NRS urged businesses yet to comply to quickly complete all outstanding integration activities and begin invoice transmission.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting taxpayers to ensure the successful implementation of the digital invoicing programme.
The directive applies to companies with an annual turnover of ₦5 billion and above.
The NRS said the initiative is aimed at modernising tax administration, improving transparency in commercial transactions, strengthening compliance monitoring, and increasing revenue collection through real-time access to transaction data.
