Bayo Ojulari, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), has reportedly dismissed at least 200 staff members from the state-owned oil company.
It was learnt that Ojulari, a former executive at Shell, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to succeed Mele Kyari.
Peoples Gazette reports that among those affected are Bala Wunti, the former head of NAPIMS, and Lawal Sade, the agency’s chief compliance officer. Ibrahim Onoja, managing director of the Port Harcourt Refinery, was also reportedly let go.
Sources indicate that the employees were either forced into retirement or terminated immediately.
“Over 200 employees have just been asked to go,” a top official, who requested anonymity, revealed. “This restructuring will enhance female representation in leadership positions.”
The report also highlighted that Ojulari promoted Maryamu Idris to replace Lawal Sade as managing director of trading.
Obioma Abangwu was appointed chief liaison officer for the NNPC’s management board.
A corporate communications spokesperson for NNPC did not respond to requests for comment on the matter.
