Ndigbo Group Unveils Grassroots Strategy to Mobilise South-East Support for Tinubu in 2027

The Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum has unveiled plans to strengthen grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu across the South-East ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The group, known as NDI-ABAT, said it had developed a political strategy focused on engaging voters, community leaders and other stakeholders across the five South-East states.

The forum said the strategy, titled “2027 South-East Winning Strategy and Political Blueprint,” would be presented to President Tinubu and the Convener of the City Boys Movement, Seyi Tinubu.

The group’s National Coordinator, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary-General, Dr Ugwuoke N. Ugwuoke Jr., disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

According to them, the blueprint was developed following consultations with community members and political stakeholders, as well as an assessment of voting patterns from previous presidential elections in the region.

NDI-ABAT noted that APC’s presidential votes in the South-East increased from 198,248 in 2015 to 403,968 in 2019 before falling to 127,605 in the 2023 presidential election.

The group said the 2019 figure represented an increase of 205,720 votes compared with the 2015 result, arguing that the changes demonstrated the importance of sustained grassroots engagement.

It added that the 2023 result showed the need for greater attention to grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next presidential election.

The forum also said the political dynamics of the five South-East states should be considered individually rather than treating the region as a single political bloc.

The proposed strategy covers Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, with specific attention to senatorial districts, local government areas and polling units.

NDI-ABAT further called for stronger engagement between South-East politicians holding government and federal positions and residents in their communities.

It said such engagement could include meetings with voters and community leaders, as well as efforts to explain government policies, programmes and projects to residents.

The group also highlighted federal infrastructure projects in the region, particularly projects being overseen by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi.

According to the forum, residents should receive clear information about government projects in their communities, including the projects being implemented and the progress recorded.

NDI-ABAT stressed that its blueprint was not designed to replace existing APC structures in the South-East, but to complement them and strengthen grassroots activities.

The group said presenting the document to President Tinubu and Seyi Tinubu would provide an opportunity to formally share its findings and recommendations ahead of the 2027 election.

It said the strategy would rely on grassroots engagement, available electoral data and measurable outcomes in assessing political activities across the region.
