The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed an aerial surveillance aircraft to support the rescue of teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed the development during a visit by Air Force officials, noting that the aircraft has been providing intelligence to aid search-and-rescue operations.
Makinde said the surveillance mission has helped security agencies track developments and coordinate efforts to secure the victims’ release.
He also urged residents to remain calm and support ongoing security operations.
He commended the Air Force for its quick response, adding that the aircraft was deployed while Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are still being prepared in Lagos.
The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.
The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked schools in Oriire LGA and kidnapped 46 people, including 39 students and seven teachers.
