Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has recounted how, as a child, he once unknowingly delivered cannabis hidden inside bread to his late father, Fela Kuti, while he was being held in detention in Lagos.
Seun said the incident happened during a visit to his father at a detention facility in Lagos when he was about eight or nine years old.
He explained that his mother, Fehintola Kuti, had given him a loaf of bread to take to Fela without telling him that cannabis had been concealed inside it.
According to him, he had no idea at the time that he was carrying anything illegal and simply delivered the bread to his father during the visit.
Seun said he only discovered what had happened later when his sister informed him that the bread contained cannabis, noting that their mother had intentionally kept him in the dark.
He added that his mother reportedly feared he might reveal the secret to security officials if he had known.
The musician further revealed that he visited his father in several detention centres during his childhood, including Ikoyi Prison, Kirikiri Prison, Panti, and Alagbon in Lagos.
