Marafa: I’ll End Zamfara Banditry in First Term or Quit Office

A former Zamfara State senator and governorship aspirant, Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, has pledged to tackle banditry and insecurity in the state within his first term if elected governor in the 2027 election.

Marafa, who is contesting the governorship election under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, said he would take the fight directly to bandits’ hideouts and deploy all necessary measures to restore security across the state.

He made the declaration while speaking about his plans for Zamfara, insisting that the persistent insecurity in the state could be addressed within a relatively short period if the government gave the problem adequate attention and demonstrated the required political will.

According to him, successive authorities have not given the fight against banditry the level of attention and seriousness required to bring the crisis under control.

Marafa said he was prepared to stake his political career on his security pledge, declaring that he would either end banditry during his first term or leave office.

“I will either end banditry in my first tenure in office or resign,” Marafa said.
He further stated that, if elected, his administration would work towards significantly reducing insecurity within two years.

“If elected as governor in the coming general elections, within a period of two years, I will end insecurity in the state by the grace of God or vacate my office,” he vowed.

Marafa also pointed to his previous experience in government, noting that he had served as a commissioner in Zamfara State and later represented the state in the National Assembly.

He said his experience in both the state and federal governments had given him an understanding of the challenges confronting Zamfara and the country at large.

The governorship aspirant appealed to residents to support his candidacy and other ADC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, promising to focus on security, economic development and improved governance.

He said his administration, if elected, would pay particular attention to critical sectors of the state’s economy and programmes capable of improving the lives of women and young people.

Marafa argued that women, children and youths constitute a significant proportion of the population and should therefore remain central to government policies and development programmes.

He promised that his administration would work to ensure that residents benefited from what he described as the dividends of democracy, while pursuing measures aimed at improving the overall welfare and development of Zamfara State.
