A fire erupted on a Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) boat on Thursday morning at the Ipakodo terminal in Ikorodu, leaving passengers and crew shaken.
The incident, which occurred at around 6 am, involved the LAGFERRY vessel “Igbega Eko,” which was on its way to Victoria Island and carrying 19 passengers.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed the fire, stating that all passengers and crew were evacuated promptly, with no fatalities reported.
However, four passengers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
A statement from LASWA explained, “The incident took place at approximately 6:45 am today at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu. Upon receiving the distress call, LASWA’s emergency response team acted swiftly, collaborating with LAGFERRY, other boat operators, and first responders to manage the situation effectively.
“We are pleased to report that all passengers and crew on board were safely evacuated, though four passengers sustained minor injuries and are receiving medical attention.”
LASWA also assured that a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, in collaboration with LAGFERRY and other stakeholders, to ensure the safety of passengers and prevent future incidents.
