Residents of Sokupkpan community in Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State, have reportedly killed their Chief Imam, Abdulahi Audu, over claims of involvement in the death of a local man, Ibrahim Gana.

According to sources who spoke to SaharaReporters, Gana had accused the cleric of harming him through supernatural means, saying he often saw Audu attacking him in his dreams.

Suspicion in the community intensified as Gana’s health deteriorated, and after his death, tensions reportedly escalated.

On Wednesday, a mob allegedly led by Mohammed Shaba, Mamudu Gana, and Ndakpotun Issa attacked the Imam despite attempts by community elders to intervene.

“The mob descended on the Imam, accusing him of killing Gana through witchcraft. They beat him until he died,” a source said.

Police from the Tsaragi Division quickly responded and arrested the three suspected leaders of the attack.

Abdulahi Audu was buried the same day according to Islamic rites amid mourning and unrest in the community.

The Kwara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
