Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has granted a state pardon to 12 convicted inmates as a gesture of mercy ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
The decision, announced on Thursday by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Bello Fanini, follows recommendations from the Jigawa State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
The pardon was executed under Section 212(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The beneficiaries are Ibrahim Adamu Isa, Sa’idu Umar, Adamu Musa, Habibu Musa, Yusuf Ahmed, Shu’aibu Adamu, Abdullahi Ya’u, Yahaya Jana’u, Abdul Hamisu, Garba Miko, Salisu Isa, and Aliyu Ibrahim.
Fanini said the pardon demonstrates the government’s commitment to reconciliation and reintegration.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain law-abiding and called on the public to support their return to society.
“This act of mercy reflects our dedication to fostering peace and goodwill,” he said, adding that the government would assist the inmates in resettling and reintegrating into their communities.
