Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has imposed a total lockdown on Erin-Osun town as the communal conflict between Ifon and Ilobu escalates.
The extension of the 24-hour curfew follows renewed violence in the affected areas, threatening peace and stability.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the directive, which takes immediate effect.
The curfew aims to prevent further breakdown of law and order while security agencies work to restore calm.
“His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is saddened by the escalation of communal clashes between Ifon and Ilobu. To effectively contain the crisis, the curfew has now been extended to Erin-Osun, with a 24-hour daily restriction until further notice,” the statement read.
The governor has directed all security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police, Immigration, NSCDC, NDLEA, and Amotekun Corps, to enforce the curfew immediately.
He emphasised the need for round-the-clock surveillance to prevent further loss of lives and destruction of property.
The crisis, which initially erupted between Ifon and Ilobu, has reportedly spread to Erin-Osun, prompting the government’s intervention.
Governor Adeleke condemned the continued violence and vowed that those responsible would face the full wrath of the law.
“I sympathise with the families affected by this unfortunate communal clash. Osun State is known for peace and harmony; we will not allow this crisis to persist. Perpetrators will be brought to justice,” he assured.
Residents of Erin-Osun have been urged to comply strictly with the curfew, as security operatives have been instructed to enforce it without bias.
Movement within the town is prohibited until further notice, except for essential services approved by the authorities.
Governor Adeleke also called on all warring factions to embrace peace, urging them to uphold the spirit of brotherhood and the Omoluabi ethos.
“Violence is never the solution. I urge all parties to lay down their arms and seek a peaceful resolution. We are one people, and we must coexist in harmony,” he added.
