ICPC Arraigns Ex-Minister Uche Nnaji Over Alleged Certificate Forgery

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday arraigned former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged certificate forgery and misappropriation of public funds.

Nnaji, 63, appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on a six-count charge filed by the anti-graft agency.

According to the ICPC, counts one and two accuse the former minister of allegedly misappropriating public funds during his time in office, while counts three, four, five and six relate to the alleged forgery of academic certificates and other related documents.

The arraignment follows months of investigation by the commission into allegations against the former minister.

The ICPC had earlier disclosed that Nnaji was arrested on July 1, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while arriving in Nigeria, following the execution of a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court.

In a statement issued after the arrest, the commission said operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) assisted in apprehending the former minister before handing him over to the ICPC for further investigation.

The anti-graft agency stated that it had previously invited Nnaji for questioning through a letter dated May 15, 2026, which it said was delivered to his known addresses in Abuja and Enugu, as well as to his email address.

However, the commission alleged that the former minister failed to honour the invitations, prompting it to obtain a bench warrant for his arrest.

The ICPC also said its investigation was initiated after it reJceived a petition reportedly submitted by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre).

According to the commission, investigators concluded their probe before filing charges against the former minister.

The case is expected to proceed before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
