Kidnappers have abducted a farmer in Yagba, a border community between Kogi and Ekiti states.

A family source told Journalists that the victim, Ajayi Bello, was taken while working on his poultry farm.

“He was on his farm around 9:30 am on Monday, June 16th, when the criminals kidnapped him; they also shot some people,” the source said.

“The kidnappers have called and are demanding N250 million as ransom, and they said they would not release him until the money is complete.”

When asked whether the kidnappers had given a deadline for the ransom payment, the family source said none had been set so far.

They are yet to issue any deadline,” the source said.

We also learned that Ajayi’s brother-in-law was abducted along with him.

One of the victims of the gunfire during the attack, identified as Musa Ibrahim, told Journalists that he narrowly escaped with his life.

“When the kidnappers came on Monday morning, I heard gunshots, and I was trying to run away when they shot me in the leg,” the source said.

He added that since the incident, he has been shuttling between his home and the hospital.

“I keep moving from my house to the hospital, although no major damage was done to my bone,” the survivor said.

When contacted, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the incident but said he was not aware of any ransom demand at the time.

“I’m aware of the kidnapping incident, and the police are doing everything to ensure that he is released. We’re working alongside local vigilantes to secure his release, but I’m not aware of the demand for ransom,”

There has been an increase in kidnap incidents in Kogi State.

Previously, we reported how kidnappers killed a retired Army Major, Joe Ajayi, after collecting a ₦10 million ransom.

The gunmen abducted the 76-year-old cleric, who was a former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kabba-Bunu chapter, from his residence in Odo-Ape, located in the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.
