A former Commissioner for Higher Education in Nigeria’s Delta State, Joan Mrakpor has been kidnapped by gunmen.
The armed men who kidnapped Mrakpor – reportedly killed two police orderlies attached to the former commissioner, leaving others with bullet wounds.
Mrakpor had resigned her appointment to enable her younger brother to contest the chairmanship election of Aniocha South Local Government Council, according to investigative news outlet, Sahara Reporters. Her resignation followed Mrakpor a series of protests against the siblings following her brother’s interest in the chairmanship position while she held a position in the state cabinet.
Mrakpor was reportedly kidnapped around 4 pm on Tuesday on the premises of her church, ‘Jesus and 1’, off DBS Road in Asaba.
It was gathered the gunmen who ambushed Mrakpor, shot indiscriminately during the attack to scare people away before she was whisked to an unknown destination.
Delta State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe did not respond to requests for comment.
