Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday, shot dead two mobile policemen and a driver escorting the wife of a lawmaker in Nigeria’s Delta State.

Mrs Christy Uroye’s was attacked along Jakpan road in Uvwie Local Government area of the state around 7 pm on Monday, 2 September.

The personnel and the driver were killed on the spot before the kidnappers took Uroye away, according to eyewitnesses.

“Unfortunately for the kidnappers, their getaway car had an accident while escaping, which enabled the woman who is the wife of a Delta State House of Assembly Member, Hon. Augustine Uroye, to escape,” said an eyewitness.

A distressing video has circulated on social media, showing the aftermath of the attack. The footage depicts the slain policemen and the commotion around Uroye’s SUV, with passersby seen grieving.

It was gathered that Uroye is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

“Her condition remains under medical care as authorities investigate the incident,” Daily Trust quoted a source as saying.

The spokesman for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incidents, stating that, “the operation was not successful.”
