German investment platform Scalable Capital has launched a new service that allows customers to use major artificial intelligence chatbots, including ChatGPT and Claude, to analyze their investment portfolios and conduct trades.
The company said the new service represents a significant step in the integration of artificial intelligence into retail investing and is believed to be the first such offering by a European bank.
Customers can now interact with their investment accounts through supported AI platforms, in addition to using Scalable Capital’s existing mobile application and website.
According to the company, the service has been developed with several security measures intended to protect customers and their investment accounts.
The move reflects the growing interest among financial institutions in using AI to make investment services more accessible and easier for ordinary investors to manage.
Scalable Capital founder and Co-CEO Erik Podzuweit described the initiative as a “first step” toward what he expects will become widespread adoption of artificial intelligence among the company’s customers.
He explained that the next major stage would be incorporating similar AI capabilities directly into Scalable Capital’s own application.
Podzuweit acknowledged that many investors may still have concerns about allowing AI systems such as ChatGPT to access their financial information or manage their portfolios.
He said the current arrangement could help customers gradually become more comfortable with the technology before it becomes more deeply integrated into the company’s platform.
He also expressed the view that increased use of AI could potentially improve investment performance on average, although he stressed that this remains a hypothesis and that its actual impact on investors’ returns will need to be assessed over time.
Founded in 2014, Scalable Capital has grown into one of Europe’s prominent digital investment platforms, with more than one million customers and over €60 billion in assets under management.
The company has its strongest presence in Germany and Austria but also operates in Italy, Spain, France and the Netherlands.
The company’s expansion comes as digital investment platforms continue to put pressure on traditional banks across Germany and other European markets.
Online brokers such as Scalable Capital have attracted retail investors by offering easier access to financial markets, lower-cost investment options and digital tools that simplify portfolio management.
The introduction of AI-powered trading and analysis could further intensify that competition.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly capable of understanding financial information and assisting with investment decisions, financial firms are exploring how the technology can be incorporated while maintaining appropriate security and customer protections.
Scalable Capital’s latest move therefore represents another indication of how quickly AI is moving beyond chat and search applications into financial services.
The company’s approach could also provide an early test of whether investors are willing to trust AI tools with sensitive financial information and, ultimately, with decisions involving their money.
