The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
Ganduje, who served as the Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023, cited health reasons for his decision, noting the need to focus on his personal well-being.
His resignation comes less than a year after he assumed the role in August 2023, following internal realignments within the ruling party.
Party sources said Ganduje tendered his resignation during a closed-door meeting with top APC leaders in Abuja on Thursday.
There had been growing speculation in recent weeks over mounting pressure on Ganduje to step aside, amid internal wrangling and calls for a leadership reshuffle from some party stakeholders.
Although no official statement has been issued by the APC, sources within the party say a caretaker arrangement may be announced pending the appointment of a substantive national chairman.
Ganduje’s exit marks a significant shift in the party’s leadership, especially as it gears up for major elections in the coming months.
