Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has challenged Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk to a third fight, saying he is currently looking for a new opponent for November.
Fury had appeared to confirm that his much-anticipated heavyweight bout with British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua would take place at Madison Square Garden in New York.
However, uncertainty surrounding the proposed fight has resurfaced, with no official date yet announced.
In an Instagram post last Wednesday, Fury shared a poster featuring himself and Joshua against the New York City skyline, describing the potential showdown as a major event.
“What a place NYC, and what a venue MSG, and what a fight Fury vs AJ, the land of opportunity,” Fury wrote.
He added that the event would provide an iconic weekend for fans and said the fight was “not long now.”
However, Fury appeared to cast doubt on the Joshua bout in an Instagram Story posted on Sunday, where he criticised Joshua and turned his attention towards Usyk.
Fury described Joshua as “weak-minded” and praised Usyk for having the courage to face him twice in the past.
“This will only lead me to a fight with Oleksandr Usyk,” Fury said.
Addressing Usyk directly, Fury said the Ukrainian had twice been willing to face him, unlike Joshua.
“Oleksandr, you’re his trainer and his sensei, and you know he is weak-minded… and that he would never fight the Gypsy King, which you have had the guts to do twice,” Fury stated.
Fury acknowledged that Usyk had beaten him twice, adding that he was ready to settle the rivalry with
another bout.
“You got the decision last time; fair play to you. Good luck to you; let’s do it again. Let’s run it back in November,” he said.
“The ball is now in your court. Do you want to fight me this year, 2026, or are you calling it quits? Let me know because I am now looking for a new opponent.”
The proposed Fury-Joshua fight is reportedly being targeted for November 20, following the signing of contracts involving both fighters and Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.
Fury has already fought Usyk twice and lost both encounters. Usyk, who became the undisputed heavyweight champion, is now involved with Joshua’s training and coaching team.
Despite the earlier indications that Fury and Joshua would meet in New York, the fight has yet to receive official confirmation. Fury’s latest comments have therefore raised further questions over whether the blockbuster British-Nigerian heavyweight clash will go ahead as planned.
For now, Fury appears determined to remain active and has publicly put the possibility of a third showdown with Usyk back on the table.
