Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has moved out of the Government House in Port Harcourt as the newly appointed Sole Administrator, Admiral Ekwe Ibas (rtd), prepares to assume office.
Sources told Daily Trust that Fubara vacated the premises on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, security has been heightened around the Government House, with at least three armoured personnel carriers stationed at the main entrance.
A security source confirmed that there was a change of guard at the seat of power, with all previous security details replaced.
“The governor left Government House this morning and the new administrator is yet to resume. We are expecting him any moment from now. The security details in Government House have been reshuffled. I can tell you that everywhere is calm and nothing is happening as we speak now.”
Despite the political tension, Port Harcourt residents have continued their daily activities without any disruption to law and order.
President Bola Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, citing the vandalisation of pipelines and the failure of stakeholders to resolve the lingering political crisis despite multiple interventions.
